The prime aims of Reading Edge Academy is the development of individuals to become proficient avid lifelong readers. 
In alignment with this, the focus of all its activities and projects are as follows:

  1. Teaching children how to read (mainstream children, delayed and ‘at-risk’ readers)
  2. Developing children into proficient readers
  3. Developing children into avid lifelong readers

To achieve the above aims, Reading Edge Academy offers a variety of services based on the
latest evidence-based research on literacy, pedagogy, and effective professional development of teachers, caregivers and parents.

Workshops

Reading Edge Academy conducts a variety of workshops on literacy development for parents, teachers and childcare care-givers. The workshops are customized to the needs of the participants individually or in small groups. A hands-on approach is taken in all the workshops so that the techniques given are practical and can be put to immediate use.

​Reading Assessment to Ascertain Age-appropriate Reading Competence
​

Research findings show a high correlation between reading proficiency and academic achievements. As such, it is fundamental that students are on track, achieving their reading milestones from pre school to secondary school.

 

Reading assessment will provide parents with information on reading and comprehension ability of their children prior to entry into elementary school as well as their continued progress through elementary and secondary education. These tests are essential to determine if the children are reading at age-appropriate levels which in turn will impact their academic performance.

What's more? – Intervention programmes are available to students to level up their reading competence to age-appropriate levels.

Reading Intervention Programmes  

​

Reading intervention programmes will be designed for students in a customised fashion so that students are able to read and comprehend text according to the age-appropriate levels. To ensure that the intervention is successful, regular progress monitoring tests will be administered so that the milestones aimed at will be achieved.

Developing Children Into Avid Lifelong Readers - A Signature Programme

​

Research findings have shown that children who excel in school and professional settings are avid readers from a young age. In alignment with this, signature programmes have been developed by Reading Edge Academy to develop children into avid lifelong readers. These programmes can be delivered at individual or small group levels. There are appropriate programmes for preschoolers, lower primary students, upper primary students, lower secondary as well as upper secondary students

Workshops for Educators
​
Reading Edge Academy provides customised workshops for educators at preschool, primary and secondary levels. These workshops are based on the latest evidence based research on reading and writing. In the workshops, the theory/ practice nexus will be negotiated through a scaffolded approach so that teachers are given practical strategies that are immediately usable in the classroom. A signature project implemented by Reading Edge Academy is - "Developing Children into Lifelong Readers - A Whole School Approach".

​Evaluation and Enhancement of Literacy Programmes
​

Reading Edge Academy provides evaluation of existing Literacy Programmes in Schools, Kindergartens, Childcare Centres and other Educational Institutions and provides recommendations for enhancing it via a scaffolded approach using evidence-based models of systematic school change.
